Officially opened on Saturday 27 April 1985, the Glenhaven Retirement Centre was planned and founded by the Central Baptist Church Welfare Association (CEBACWAS). Glenhaven lies on the border of Faerie Glen and Garsfontein in Pretoria East, and is close to amenities such as the Faerie Glen medical centre, Pretoria East Hospital, the post office, police station and five major shopping areas.
Glenhaven offers tranquil, high quality and affordable accommodation in a variety of housing facilities including one, two or three-bedroom cottages and a selection of flats. The financial model for the rental of flats, cottages and the life-right ownership of cottages is not profit driven. Affordability and value for money is our key motive.
A range of accommodation options, including bachelor and one bedroom flats that can be rented directly from CEBACWAS, as well as one, two and three bedroom cottages that are sold on a Life Right basis (meaning that you purchase the right to live in a unit for the remainder of your, or your spouse’s, life or until you sell the unit) are available at this Retirement Centre. All flats and cottages are North-facing and ground-floor units offer a garden and patio.
When purchasing a Life Right, unit prices may vary depending on the unit size.
Cottage rental opportunities (one, two or three bedroom cottages) also become available from time to time through Life Right Owners (adhering to the CEBACWAS regulations).
All our Life Right Units at Glenhaven Retirement Centre are required to uphold a certain standard before being sold or available for rental. As such, when you purchase a Life Right at Glenhaven, depending on how recently it was upgraded, the unit will be renovated to your specifications. You will have the benefit of your own choice of tiles and/or carpets, paint colours etc. affording you the opportunity to create your perfect home with your own flair as you enter your retirement.
CEBACWAS Rental Units are also upgraded, as and when required, to our standard – providing you with a modern, clean-cut design perfect for every-day living.
Lovely, well-maintained gardens, beautifully built face-brick units, a sparkling blue swimming pool and top-class services – this is what Haven Village offers and more. Haven Village offers 75 accommodation units ranging from bachelor to three bedroom units.
Residents also have access to the Frail Care facility located a stone's throw away at Glenhaven Retirement Centre (also in Pretoria East). All units at Haven Village are for independent residents, with no assisted living options available at this Retirement centre.

Rental opportunities also become available from time to time, to rent from the Life Right owner, adhering to the Haven Village regulations.
When purchasing, or renting, a Life Right unit at Haven Village, Haven Village Trust will ensure that it upholds a certain standard before it is released for occupation. As such, depending on how recently a unit was upgraded, when you purchase the Life Right to a unit, the unit will be renovated to your specifications. You will have your own choice of tiles and/or carpets, paint colours, etc. You will be a part of the process to ensure the unit becomes the home you’ve always imagined.
When rental units are still in good condition when occupation changes, units may be refurbished to maintain the Haven Village Trust standard.
As Assisted Living is not offered at Haven Village, the best course of action would be to move to Glenhaven when a suitable unit becomes available. This can be arranged through the Accommodation Department.
If Frail Care is required, Haven Village residents (along with Glenhaven Residents), get preferential access to the Frail Care Facility and residents will be accepted directly to the Care Unit from Haven Village.
Independent Living refers to residents that are able to fully take care of themselves and perform their daily living activities without any assistance. The majority of residents at Glenhaven and Haven Village live independently.
Assisted Living services provided are determined by a DQ Assessment (Dependency Questionnaire), as required by law under the Older Persons Act. This confidential questionnaire assesses the condition and specific needs of each resident. Services can include (but are not limited to):
The cost associated with Assisted Living services are relative to the services required and is over and above the monthly levy payable. Four sick bay beds are also reserved in the Frail Care Unit for Glenhaven and Haven Village residents for short term convalescence and nursing care. Glenhaven residents also have preferential access to the Frail Care unit should they require longer term 24/7 care.
A Dependency Questionnaire Assessment (DQ) is an assessment, required by law under the Older Persons Act, done by our Matron, to determine whether you are capable of taking care of yourself, or to determine the amount and type of care residents require.
The Assessment consists of a few tasks and tests to determine your capabilities. All residents moving into our Retirement Centres are required to complete a DQ Assessment before occupation can commence.
Getting a Garage or Carport will depend on whether you're planning to purchase or rent a unit. When purchasing a cottage, a garage or carport has likely already been allocated to the unit and will be sold along with the unit.
However, if you'd like to rent a CEBACWAS unit, renting a garage or carport is also possible, depending on availability. Should no garage or carport be available, you can still park your vehicle safely within the centre guarded by 24-hour security.
We are in the final stages of ensuring that each unit at Haven Village either has a Garage or Carport allocated to it. The available unit will therefore determine whether you will receive a garage or carport as parking space.
Yes. Even though the majority of units at Haven Village are sold on a Life Right basis, 7 of the 75 units at Haven Village are available to rent directly from Haven Village Trust. Other rental opportunities (Life Right Cottages) also become available from time to time through Life Right Owners (adhering to the Haven Village Trust regulations).
When renting a unit from Haven Village Trust, you will be responsible for the monthly rental amount, monthly levy, security levy, CSOS levy, Catering Levy (8 compulsory meals) and electricity. Prices differ according to unit type. When renting a unit through Haven Village Trust from a Life Right Owner, you will only be responsible for the monthly rental amount (determined by the Life Right Owner), the catering levy (8 compulsory meals) as well as electricity.
All residents, their visitors, and Service Members have the option to purchase meal tickets (apart from the 8 compulsory meals for all new residents), or to add meals to their Glenhaven Account. However, in order to attend a meal in the dining hall, meal bookings have to be made in advance.
Meals must be booked at Main Reception by 10:00, one day in advance. Meals for weekends and Mondays must be booked by 12:00 on a Friday.
Lunch is served in the dining hall; however, you have the option to book for Room Service at an extra cost. Breakfast is served either in the dining hall or as Take Away, and Dinner is only available as a Take Away. The option to collect your food as a Take Away in your own container is also available.
Lunch is available to all residents at Haven Village, and their guests, from Mondays to Fridays (except public holidays). Meals are delivered from Glenhaven, and residents can have it served in the Community Centre at 12:30, or have it delivered to their units at an extra charge. Meal tickets must be bought (or collected in case of the 8 compulsory meals), at Haven Village Reception and orders must be placed before 10:00 on the working day prior to that for which the meal is ordered. Residents wishing to have Sunday lunch at Glenhaven, must inform Glenhaven Main Reception before 12:00 on Fridays.
If you purchased the Life Right to a unit and the time comes for you to move to our Frail Care Facilities, you will have the option to either sell your unit back to CEBACWAS or rent out your unit for an income.
If the time comes for you to move to the Frail Care Facility at Glenhaven, you will have the option to either sell your unit back to the Haven Village Trust, or rent out your unit for an income. Both options can be discussed with the Accommodation Department to determine the best course of action for you.
All residents receive a panic button upon taking occupation of a unit. Should you have a medical emergency at night, simply press your panic button and our 24-hour Frail Care service will respond and assist.
There is a live-in Sister on the premises and all Haven Village units have a panic button. If you press your panic button, the Sister will be informed and react immediately.
Moving to Glenhaven was the best decision I've ever made! I have a wonderful home, live amongst kind people and am living my best life in a place where everyone cares! If I knew living at Glenhaven would be like this, I would have made the decision to come here years before I did! It’s a great place to call home Dina Harding, Glenhaven Resident
